Tales of series Illustrator and Character Designer Mutsumi Inomata Passes Away at Age of 63

There are a lot of sad news in the Anime & Gaming World at the moment. After the shocking passing of Akira Toriyama, the mastermind behind Dragon Ball and many other series earlier this month as well as Tarako, the voice of Chibi Maruku chan, we now again have sad news.

Illustrator and Character Designer Mutsumi Inomata who was best known for her work on the popular JRPG Tales of series, has passed away at the age of 63. The series includes titles like Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of Rebirth, Tales of the Tempest, Tales of Innocence, Tales of Hearts, Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria.

The Tales series surely can be seen as Inomata’s legacy, and while there haven’t been any new releases for a while now, if and when the franchise continues, it won’t be the same without Inomata. She also worked as a designer on three Tekken games.

Mutsumi Inomata was born on December 23, 1960, in the Kanagawa Prefecture, and she wanted to work in the anime industry from early childhood, as she was a big fan of anime in general. After working for Maki Pro, she landed her first professional gig with Ashi Productions, working as an animator, key animation director, and character designer on several anime television series.

We will miss Inomata San dearly, and we wish her family all the best in these hard times.
