Tokyo police are prosecuting a trio for a wild public stunt involving groping

In a case that’s raising eyebrows, Tokyo Metropolitan Police have referred a 27-year-old woman and two men in their thirties to prosecutors. They’re being charged with obscene behavior under a local ordinance aimed at preventing public nuisances.

Here’s what went down: The group approached people on the streets of Shibuya (and apparently Shinjuku too) and invited them to play a “guessing game” by reaching into a cardboard box that the woman was wearing around her upper body. The twist? Her breasts were inside the box, so participants ended up groping her while trying to figure out what they were touching. One guy filmed the interactions while the other played interviewer.

They pulled this off 14 times since February last year. The videos were posted on TikTok under the account “Saa-chan inside the box,” racking up a massive 800 million views. It wasn’t just for clout — the clips were promoting paid “Boxgirl” content on the subscription site MyFans, and the group reportedly made around ¥10 million from it.

The woman involved is reportedly an adult video performer named Chiyu (she appeared masked in the videos and on the platform). While some might see it as an edgy social media prank, doing something like this in public crosses a clear line. It’s no surprise authorities eventually stepped in, especially with that level of visibility.

This kind of stunt blurs the line between content creation and public indecency, and it highlights how quickly online fame can lead to real-world legal trouble. What do you think — bold marketing or just asking for problems?
