Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Has Gay Relationships & Non-Binary Miis

Nintendo has confirmed that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will let players create non-binary Miis and set dating preferences that allow same-sex relationships, a change the company is framing as finally delivering on its long-promised “more inclusive” approach to the series.

This was confirmed during the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Nintendo Direct, alongside the game’s release date. When creating a Mii, players can now choose from three gender options: Male, Female, and Non-binary. Players can also set their Mii’s dating preferences using the same three options:

The original Tomodachi Life on 3DS had some loud whining from a small group of individuals over the lack of same-sex relationships.

Following this loud whining, Nintendo of America issued an apology saying that if a future Tomodachi game was made, they would strive to design a gameplay experience “from the ground up” that is “more inclusive” and “better represents all players.”
