Steam’s Gabe Newell Allegedly Shut Down Calls For More Moderation of Porn Games

A new rumor circulating online claims Valve had a heated internal debate over pornographic games on Steam, with company founder Gabe Newell reportedly rejecting calls for the platform to take a more aggressive role in moderating adult content.

Former Valve employees alleged that the company’s top lawyer argued Steam should become more involved in regulating adult games available on the storefront.

It is claimed Newell strongly disagreed with that position and responded: “What the f*** do I pay you for if that’s your opinion?”

According to the Twitter post on the subject, the quote comes from accounts provided by former employees and has not been publicly confirmed by Valve.

If true, such a claim would be surprising considering Valve has been highly aggressive when it comes to policing eroge on Steam, particularly those with an anime-style aesthetic, as the platform would vigorously remove games just for having a character that looks underage (even when they actually aren’t).
