SAITAMA – Saitama Prefectural Police launched an investigation after a body was found inside a drum on the grounds of a recycling company in Yoshikawa City on Friday, reports TBS News (Apr. 18).
At around 4:00 p.m., a male employee of the recycling company in Komatsugawa called police. “When I opened a drum can, I saw something that looked like a human leg,” he said.
When police arrived to check, they found the body, of unknown gender and approximate age, covered with a blue tarp inside the drum.
According to police, the clothed body appears to be that of an adult.
The drum measures about 60 centimeters in diameter and 90 centimeters deep. It was retrieved from within Saitama Prefecture on Thursday.
Police plan to perform an autopsy on the body to determine the cause of death and identity. The case is being treated as abandoning a corpse.
Update: Police have confirmed that the body is that of an adult woman. The drum was collected from a rented storage space in Tokorozawa City the day before, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 19).
