A 32-year-old woman just got arrested in Japan for what has to be one of the weirdest “I just really like anime” stories of the year.
According to police, Mayu Yoshida spent roughly two years flooding Shueisha’s official online shop with massive orders of Weekly Shonen Jump merch, mainly One Piece and Naruto goods, only to cancel every single one without paying. She allegedly used 238 different accounts to pull this off.
The total face value of the canceled orders? Over 4.3 billion yen.
That’s not a typo. Four. Point. Three. Billion.
Shueisha says the constant flood of huge orders followed by cancellations seriously disrupted their operations, which is why she’s facing charges of obstructing business.
When questioned, she basically admitted everything and offered the most chaotic justification possible:
“I like anime in general. Placing the orders satisfied my desires.”
No payment. No intention of receiving the goods. Just the pure dopamine hit of hitting “order” on limited-edition Luffy figures and Naruto keychains… then canceling them.
It’s the kind of story that makes you stare at the screen for a second and go, “…huh.”
Some people collect. Some people cosplay. This woman apparently just needed the fleeting high of filling a shopping cart with millions of yen worth of Jump merch and then watching it all vanish.
