A couple of Japanese adult video actresses have been making quiet donations to help people still recovering from last month’s Kumamoto earthquake… and of course the internet couldn’t just say “thanks.”
On August 5, veteran actress Ann Sasakura (also known as Haru Ogawa) posted that she’d donated money for disaster relief. The July 28 quake left 36 people dead, thousands in temporary housing, and a whole lot of damage still being cleaned up.
Sasakura, who’s 39 and has been freelancing since last year, even acknowledged in her post that some people might side-eye a donation coming from someone in the adult industry. But the overall reaction online has been pretty supportive — most people just said any help is welcome, full stop.
She’s not the only one. Busty actress Yu Tano (the L-cup former gravure idol who made her AV debut in 2024) recently announced a ¥3 million donation of her own, plus she sent over drinks, diapers, and other emergency supplies.
That one didn’t go as smoothly. Some online commenters immediately jumped on her, calling the money “dirty” because of how she earned it.
Which brings up the usual awkward question: should adult performers keep quiet about doing good things, or is a donation still a donation no matter whose bank account it came from?
Especially in an industry that has, let’s be honest, occasionally made some very questionable content around disaster themes in the past.
Either way, people in Kumamoto still need help. And right now two AV actresses are among the ones actually sending it.
