South Korean Man Arrested in Japan for Child Porn Sales

A South Korean man employed at a childcare facility in Japan was arrested by police on suspicion of selling child sexual exploitation videos online.

According to local media, including Kyodo News, on the 31st, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Byun Mo, 31 years old, on charges of violating the Child Prostitution and Child Pornography Prohibition Act. The police stated, “Approximately 2,800 video and image files presumed to be child pornography were found on a smartphone possessed by Byun.”

Byun is alleged to have posted messages such as “I need pocket money” and “I have videos taken while bathing” on social media (SNS) from March to July of last year, selling 10 videos to multiple men in their 20s to 60s for 34,500 yen (approximately 320,000 Korean won).

Byun reportedly stated during the investigation, “I collected videos and images because I was interested in child pornography,” and “As my life became difficult, I sold them to cover living expenses such as food.”

However, an investigative source revealed that no videos related to children from the childcare facility where Byun worked were identified. The police are currently tracking additional victims and the distribution channels of the videos.
