Economic Security Minister Kimi Onoda shocked users in the early hours of December 7 by announcing she had finally cleared one of FGO’s newest main story chapters.
Her midnight declaration began simply with: “Somehow managed to clear Metatronios… I made it in time…”, followed by a heartfelt thanks to fellow players who once coached her through an earlier difficulty spike: “To all the Masters who gave me advice when I got stuck in a previous chapter — thank you very much.”
The mysterious “Metatronios” referenced in her post confused some older users — one even said, “I’m an old guy so I have absolutely no idea what she’s talking about” — until players quickly identified it as Chapter 4 of the new FGO main quest, “Trinity Metatronios.”
As it turns out, Onoda isn’t just casually familiar with FGO — she’s been a full-fledged Master since at least 2017. She once described her descent into the game with the now-famous progression:
“I thought maybe I’d try a little app game to soothe my frayed heart during train rides → oh, it’s that series I’ve always been curious about. But I don’t have time to get addicted to something, and that would be dangerous → well, maybe just a little… → install FGO → several months pass → why did I ever start this?!! (This is where I’m at now)”
Since then, she has frequently posted about strategies, progress updates, and even her most prized Servant acquisitions. One 2022 post proudly declared:
“When I read a book about Himiko in elementary school, it inspired me to become a politician — so I’ve always been a hardcore Himiko fan. Since I’m a hardcore fan, I went all-out to get Lady Himiko in FGO and she’s level max.”
Her devotion to Himiko — both historical and digital — was also highlighted in a 2023 LDP YouTube interview, where she said discovering the Gakken Manga: Japanese Historical Figures – Himiko in her school library inspired her political aspirations.
Social media exploded with amusement and respect at the idea of a sitting minister grinding late-night quests:
“An active government minister posting a quest-clear report is hilarious lol”
“I never imagined she was a Master from Chaldea… You must be busy, but let’s enjoy the final chapter together.”
“An active minister and a Master? I’m in awe…”
December 7 also happened to be Onoda’s 43rd birthday, which she marked with another post showing herself holding a bouquet made from Cup Noodles: “Today, I reached level 43.”
She added:
“The other day, my secretaries gave me a bouquet (of Cup Noodles), thank you very much. I never expected to hold the position of minister, and since my appointment I’ve been rushing around from morning until night, but on Twitter I’ll continue living my life as usual and promoting Okayama, so please keep supporting me!”
A Japanese cabinet minister staying up past midnight to clear FGO is exactly the kind of crossover the internet lives for — and judging by the reaction, Onoda’s status as “an active minister and a Master” may now be one of her most beloved titles.
