Sayaka Tomoda has been in the adult video industry for almost 17 years now, and she just gave a pretty honest interview about what it’s really been like.
The 37-year-old debuted back in 2009 at 18. She didn’t start out dreaming of becoming an AV actress — she just felt it was too late to break into regular acting, so she changed her approach. Her agency even gave her acting lessons while she worked in adult films.
For the first two years she kept everything secret from her family. When she finally told her mom and two younger brothers, she fully expected them to cut her off. She even told them, “You can cut ties with me.”
Instead, her mom basically said she had a feeling it was something like that, and told her to keep going until she was completely satisfied. Tomoda still seems blown away by how accepting they were, and says she wants to take care of her mother for the rest of her life because of it.
Off-camera, her life is way less glamorous than people assume. She admits she’s a terrible cook who lives off delivery apps and piles toppings onto Coco Ichibanya curry. Directors apparently picture her at fancy restaurants driving luxury cars, but in reality she’s hitting conveyor-belt sushi places with friends, zero makeup.
She also has a huge collection of animal dolls — over 100 baby animal figures at this point. She started collecting them because she didn’t get many toys as a kid, and now her shelves are packed.
As for the future, she has no plans to quit anytime soon. She likes how flexible and relatively kind the industry has been to her. She still hopes to get married one day, but she’s mostly given up on having kids because of her age and career timing. She’s just waiting for that sudden “revelation” that former actresses talk about — the moment they just know it’s time to stop. Until then, she wants to keep working and meet as many fans as possible.
Pretty grounded for someone who’s been in the industry this long.
