Reika Kirishima finally did it. The 54-year-old actress — best known to a lot of people for her roles in the Murakami adaptations Norwegian Wood and Drive My Car — has a full-frontal nude scene in the new dystopian sci-fi movie Hot Spot. And it apparently took a foreign production to make it happen.
It’s not a sex scene. She walks around a room naked, looking injured and traumatized. One of her breasts has been mauled off. So if you were hoping for a glamorous MILF moment, this isn’t that. The whole thing is grim, which fits the movie: a near-future world run by sentient AI, directed by Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczyńska (The Lure), and starring Noomi Rapace and Andrzej Konopka.
Kirishima plays Ayka, the detective’s wife. She shows up with dyed blonde hair and a much more punk look than usual. There’s a terrifying tiger encounter in there too. The trailer teases something between her and Konopka, but the actual full-frontal moment people are talking about is the damaged, walking-around-naked one.
She was probably around 52 when they shot it in 2024. The film just came out. Given how Japan usually handles this stuff, don’t be surprised if the local version gets pixelated.
This isn’t her first time near the edge. In Norwegian Wood (2010) she had a non-nude sex scene opposite the likes of Kiko Mizuhara and Rinko Kikuchi. Drive My Car (2021) had hints of nudity. But full-frontal? This looks like the first time.
She was married to a film director for seven years before they divorced in 2013. After that she’s mostly stayed in the “respected actress who sometimes gets a little daring” lane. Until a Polish sci-fi movie decided to go there.
Whether Japanese theaters actually let you see it uncensored is another question. But the scene exists now. That’s new.
