The creators of I Want to Make the Losing Heroine Win!! (also known as Make Heroine wo Katasetai) have decided to end their serialization with Akita Shoten, citing a breakdown in trust over sales numbers and repeated editorial issues.
Writers Michiru Nakayama and artist Tatsuwaipu announced that the series will stop with the latest update under their current publisher. Once the existing contract runs out at the end of 2026, they plan to pick the story back up through the digital platform Number Nine starting around January 2027.
In their detailed explanation, the duo said the former editor had given them a positive picture of the first volume’s performance. Around a month after release, they were told sales were strong and that there was little chance the series would end with volume 5. Later, after checking the actual electronic sales data and talking with their new editor, they found the numbers weren’t considered strong at all — and that the series’ future could still hinge on how volume 2 performed.
Beyond the sales discrepancy, they listed a string of ongoing problems: delays reviewing storyboards and cover art that messed with the schedule, cover designs submitted with the wrong artwork, slow or incomplete communication with outside partners, and meetings that left the creators mostly handling the story development on their own. Even after the editor was replaced, they said the handover of materials and information was incomplete.
When they tried to sit down with the editor-in-chief to clear the air, they learned the former editor had already been removed without prior notice. That was the final straw. They concluded it would be too hard to rebuild a working relationship and chose to walk away.
As a result, several of their other titles currently with Akita Shoten — including Hagure Yusha no Isekai Bible and Tamamori Bucho no Moso wa Tomaranai — will also stop being distributed by the publisher at the end of 2026.
The creators apologized to readers for the sudden change but said they’re committed to continuing the series on their own terms. For fans of the “losing heroine” story, it looks like the wait will continue a little longer — just under a different publisher.
