AV actress Yua Fukuda is speaking out after getting deported from New Zealand earlier this year — and the online gossip that followed.
She’d planned a spontaneous solo trip just to check out the night sky. Instead, immigration pulled her aside for a nearly six-hour interrogation about her job, itinerary, and flight bookings. Because she’d only locked in a hotel and a return ticket with no detailed sightseeing plans, they decided her purpose of travel was “unclear.”
She ended up spending the night in a small holding cell with a mattress on the floor and an exposed toilet, then got put on a plane back to Japan the next day.
Once the news spread online, a bunch of people jumped to the conclusion that she was trying to do sex work overseas. In a recent interview, Fukuda shut that down. She says authorities never really pressed her hard about her job (she described herself as a “modeling talent”), and she was dressed in basic, comfortable clothes with almost no makeup for the long flight. She even showed them hotel confirmation emails and tax documents proving she earns money in Japan.
Her take? She thinks just being a solo Japanese woman was enough to get her flagged. She’s not happy about the growing trend of Japanese women going abroad for sex work either, saying people should respect the countries they visit and that travelers kind of represent Japan when they’re overseas.
Despite the rough experience and the online heat, Fukuda says she doesn’t regret her career — it’s given her the freedom and money to travel. She knows the deportation mark will make future trips harder, but she’s still hoping to try New Zealand again in a decade or two and finally see those stars.
